The library has recently added VAST: Academic Video Online to its online collections, providing streaming access to over 10,000 videos in a variety of subject disciplines, including: art, architecture, business, counseling and therapy, criminal justice, dance, economics, education, ethnic studies, ethnography, gay and lesbian studies, health, history, humanities, literature, opera, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, science, theatre, and women’s studies.

VAST videos include synchronized scrolling transcripts, which are searchable and allow viewers to jump forward or backward in a video based on this text.  VAST videos are also accessible via iOS and Android mobile devices, and each video includes a permalink perfect for bookmarking or inserting into Blackboard posts or email messages.  Try this sample video clip about Nebraska, from A&E’s series on The States, or this brief instructional video for teachers titled, “How to Annotate and Share Research Using Online Social Bookmarking”.

Together, VAST and Films On Demand, provide access to thousands of documentaries, newsreel clips, and educational programs to UNK students and employees.  Look for both of these databases under “Images, Audio and Video” on the library’s “Articles & E-Resources” webpage.
