AP Images database delivers the world in pictures

Written by Jon Ritterbush, Electronic Resources Librarian

ap-images-logoThe library has recently added the AP Images database, which provides access to over 3.5 million photographs and text captions dating from the 1820s to images recorded by photojournalists within the last few minutes.  More than 3,000 photographs are added daily to the database.

Images of the following events are currently featured on the homepage of the AP Images database:

  • Gulf oil spill,
  • Historic August events
  • Pakistan floods

The AP Images database is keyword searchable, and an advanced search form allows for searching by personal name, date range, and geographic location.  Images from the database may be downloaded and used with attribution for educational purposes including research papers, theses, reports and PowerPoint presentations.

Access to the AP Images database is currently limited to one user at a time, so if you see a login screen with the AP logo and message for “returning users,” please try connecting again a few minutes later. AP Images is listed under the “As” and “Images and Sound Files” from the library’s “Articles & E-Resources” webpage.
