Health care reform, cap-and-trade legislation, and the interrogation of suspected terrorists are just a few of the politically charged topics that have made headlines in the past year.  While many of us hold strong personal views on these subjects, examining and understanding other positions can be difficult without encountering biases, hyperbole, and misinformation.

The Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center brings together pro- and con- viewpoints by authoritative writers and subject experts, as well as links to related full-text articles from academic journals, magazines and newspapers, and transcripts and audio files from news broadcasts.

In addition to pulling together so many sources, Opposing Viewpoints also provides helpful tools for citing articles in a research paper, and for translating these articles into Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Italian, Portuguese, simplified Chinese, or Korean.  This database will even read the article to you, or allow you to download an MP3 version for listening on the road or on the jogging trail.

The Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center is included on the library’s Databases and E-Resources lists.   Looking for still more information on political issues of the day?  Stay tuned for an upcoming post about CQ Researcher!
